GENERAL SUMMARY
Supervises the work of Staff Attorneys. Completes a variety of legal functions including reviewing and analyzing law from multiple authorities, performing research, providing advice, drafting legal documentation, and assisting other Circuit Court parties to respond to inquiries. Directs the creation and implementation of judicial educational resources developed by Staff Attorneys. Responsible for maintenance of judicial education databases and resources including collaboration with Court Administration on updating course materials, and Information Technology on system upgrades.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviewing and approving written work
- Providing constructive feedback
- Onboarding and training Staff Attorneys
- Drafting annual performance evaluations in consultation with Circuit Court Senior Administrator
- Conducts legal research on a range of issues for multiple judges and has primary responsibility for complex dockets
- Reads and analyzes briefs and records in cases on appeal
- Drafts orders addressing arguments in briefs using facts and law to support the court’s conclusions
- Provides case reviews, briefs, and other documents to identify jurisdictional or other procedural defects
- Prepares legal research memoranda and drafts orders based on interpretation of statutes or other legal findings as requested by the Court
- Reviews motions filed in cases accepted for review, assesses information, and makes recommendations to Court
- Writes memorandums, including summaries of oral discussions between staff attorney and individual justices
- Provides legal research, including research for multiple complex dockets, writes summaries, and determines if reassignment is appropriate
- Monitors and reviews docketed cases and motions as requested by the Court
- Conducts research and drafts memos to advise Circuit Court Policy
- Coordinates centralized Judicial Internship process
- Summarizes New Hampshire Supreme Court opinions, 3JX orders, and unpublished orders relevant to the Circuit Court
- Updates administrative memos in SharePoint for clerk training materials, office memos, and judges’ orders to share training materials and benefit newer judges
- Compiles and updates educational materials for incoming and existing judges according to changes in law, policy, and/or pedagogical approaches
- Coordinates and conducts judicial education events as appropriate
- Completes special projects as assigned by the Circuit Court Administrative Judges and Sr. Administrator
- Performs related work as required

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
· A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
· Three (3) to five (5) years of law clerk or practicing attorney experience.
· Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Licenses or Certifications
· Admitted to practice law in the State of New Hampshire (Bar membership).
