Position/Title: Orthopaedic Technologist-Certified
Location: Bedford/ Nashua multiple offices
Pay Status: Hourly
Immediate Supervisor: Clinic Manager
II. General Purpose and Objective
To provide professional Orthopaedic care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. The Ortho Tech will provide casting, splinting, bracing techniques and use of DME supplies in all NHOC locations.
III. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ortho Tech:
Take necessary measurements (i.e.: grip strength, leg length, etc)
Fabricate, adjust and remove orthopaedic devices.
Measure and fit patients for braces and other Orthopaedic devices . Casting/splinting
Medical Assistant duties:
1. Remove sutures and staples.
2. Change dressing and care for wounds.
3. Apply, adjust and remove casts.
4. Assist Orthopaedic Surgeon, PA in reduction of fractures.
5. Instruct patient in Pre and Post operative care.
6. Instruct patient in proper care of cast.
7. Assist in making F/U appt. and consultation appt. with other specialists for patients.
8. Knowledge of proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing change, removal of sutures or staples, and in setting up sterile fields.
9. Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopaedic conditions based on advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another.
10. Escort’s patients to exam rooms and assists in determining medical problems.
11. Takes vital signs and assists patients in flow through clinic.
12. Prepares exam room and instruments examination and testing.
13. Stocks supplies
14. Sterilizes instruments.
15. Respond to and document telephone messages as directed.
16. Assists with the scheduling of tests.
17. Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests.
18. Issues out-patient materials
19. Attends required meetings and in-services.
20. Administers prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with nursing standards.
21. Draws up medication for physicians.
22. Checks medication for expirations.
IV. Physical Requirements of Position / Special Conditions of Job
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids. Must be able to travel to all locations for training and scheduling purposes.
V. Qualifications
Must be certified by The National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT).

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
