Position Information

New Hanover County is looking for a Stormwater Maintenance Worker to join the Stormwater Services Division of the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining stormwater drainage systems through semi-skilled manual labor and use of various hand tools and power equipment. Other duties include : performing preventative maintenance on tools and equipment; transporting and operating heavy equipment, such as backhoes and excavators; Driving county vehicles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs); Using hand tools such as chainsaws, winches, shovels, and other hand and power tools; Performing landscape and waterway clearance work such as : removing debris, cutting felled trees for removal, removing excess mud and / or sand from waterways, and cutting branches, among other clearance work; Reporting to blocked waterways both reported by residents as well as identified by the Engineering Department; Occasionally using jon boats to cross deep waterways and / or working in standing water up to chest level; And performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Hours :

6 : 30 AM to 5 : 30 PM Monday - Thursday. Must be available to work during emergency situations. (Description of work hours does not apply in emergency situations)

Salary Information : The hiring range for this position starts at $36,325. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. Candidates with a valid North Carolina Class A CDL license may be eligible for a 3% increase in salary. New Hanover County offers :
