New Hanover County is seeking a Program Assistant to join the Community Justice Services department. This position will assist in carrying out activities for the Intensive Intervention Service Program and may be cross-trained to assist with Prevention Programming as needs arise.
Duties in the Intensive Intervention Services Program involve supervision of court ordered youth and assisting participants to successfully complete their community service commitment through direct supervision at community activities. The assistant will also monitor community service work sites, and assist with training youth on basic job skills both at the work site and throughout the community; assist in the development of new and/or potential community service opportunities for youth; participate in chart documentation as related to the program activities; address inquiries of the public regarding the operations and activities of programs and services available through the department; and assist with the preparation and compilation of reports and related documents detailing department programs and activities and as mandated by Federal, State, County, and JCPC guidelines.
Other responsibilities include:
- Assists in carrying out program activities and services.
- Assists with activities aimed at educating or counseling participants of the programs.
- Assists with activities related to the recruitment, training, and recognition of volunteers per standards set by the department to include preparing information guides detailing volunteer responsibilities.
- Recruits program participants through community networking.
- Addresses inquiries of the general public regarding the operations and activities of programs and services available through the department.
- Assists with the preparation and compilation of reports and related documents detailing department programs and activities and as mandated by Federal and State guidelines.
- Audits and reviews records for community programs for compliance with programs and Best Practice Charting Standards.
- Serves as a team lead in the event the Program Coordinator is not available.
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

The hiring range for this position is $36,325 - $49,038. Salary will be determined based on qualifications. Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.

- High School Diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience related to the program area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
