Are you a passionate and versatile music educator who thrives on inspiring students? Do you love working in a dynamic, performance-driven environment that encourages creativity and growth? New Haven Academy of Performing Arts (NHAOPA) is looking for a dedicated Part-Time Music Teacher to join our team and help shape the next generation of musicians.

About Us

At NHAOPA, we believe in the transformative power of the performing arts. Our academy provides top-tier instruction in music, theater, and dance, offering students a supportive and engaging space to develop their skills. Whether through private lessons, group classes, or live performances, our mission is to inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for the arts.

About the Role

We are seeking an energetic, well-spoken, and highly skilled Music Teacher who can teach multiple instruments up to at least an intermediate level. The ideal candidate will be proficient in piano, guitar, drums, and voice (experience with additional instruments is a plus). You should be comfortable working with students of all ages and skill levels, particularly children and teens.

This position offers flexible, part-time hours with the potential for additional teaching opportunities based on demand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging and effective private and group music lessons in piano, guitar, drums, and voice (additional instruments a plus).
  • Adapt lesson plans to fit individual student needs, goals, and learning styles.
  • Encourage and prepare students for live performances, recitals, and showcases.
  • Lead or assist with rock band programs and group music classes (a huge plus).
  • Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and staff regarding progress and expectations.
  • Foster a fun, supportive, and motivating learning environment.
  • Participate in academy events, performances, and community outreach initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience teaching music in both private and group settings (preferred).
  • A bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • A passion for teaching and the ability to engage and inspire students of all ages.
  • Strong performance skills and a love for live music.
  • Outgoing, friendly, and professional demeanor—must be comfortable interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Experience leading or working with rock bands and ensemble groups (preferred but not required).
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (a plus but not required).
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience (we promise, it’s better than what that “other rock school” offers!).
  • Retirement matching to help invest in your future.
  • Opportunities to perform and be part of a thriving artistic community.
  • Flexible schedule with potential for expanded hours.

Why Join NHAOPA?

  • A supportive, collaborative, and fun work environment.
  • Opportunities to grow as an educator and performer.
  • The chance to truly make an impact on students' lives through the power of music.
