REPORTS TO : Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts
POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts, the Literacy Coach ensures students receive high-quality literacy instruction by providing teachers in a school building guidance, leadership, expertise and professional development through modeling lessons, observations and feedback sessions, data analysis, and more to improve student achievement. The Literacy Coach serves as the literacy content expert and provides support on curriculum, instruction, and assessment working closely with the administration in a school. The Literacy Coach takes a hands-on approach to improving instruction and effectiveness by working at various levels (classroom, school, district-wide) to directly support instruction, intervention, and English Language Development for all students, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
School Leadership
- Facilitates Professional Development Communities
- Meets regularly with Administrators to discuss literacy practices, goals, and outcomes
- Oversees and supports ongoing literacy assessments across all literacy classrooms
- Collects data, analyzes data, and keeps comprehensive records on student progress to facilitate progress monitoring
- Assesses and communicates classroom needs for instructional materials, and focused student support, to allocate resources and determine professional development and coaching needs
- Communicates with Literacy Team on schoolwide literacy progress
- Designs, presents, and facilitates adult learning experiences through ongoing, embedded, targeted professional development

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 10-Month work year. New Haven Federation of Teachers Salary contingent on degree and years of experience :

EVALUATION : Evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Elementary Reading and Language Arts or Supervisor of Secondary English Language Arts
