Education Internship for New Haven Counts & New Haven Reads
Position Overview:
The New Haven Tutoring Initiative is seeking proactive and dedicated Education Interns to provide valuable support to our Education Coordinators, Engagement Coordinator, and on-site educational teams at each of our 10 school locations. These part-time interns will work closely with certified teachers, tutors, math mentors, and program leaders to enhance the learning experience of K-8 students, contribute to marketing efforts, and actively engage their high school communities in volunteer recruitment initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience in education, community engagement, and nonprofit operations.
Prerequisite Requirement:
15 hours of community service learning the ins and outs of the role
Work Hours and Schedule:
8-10 hours a week, weekdays during the school day and/or after school programs
Key Responsibilities:
1. On-Site Support:
- Collaborate with Education Coordinators and on-site teams to support classroom activities, small group sessions, and individual student support.
- Assist with the implementation of math education programs, engaging students in learning activities, and providing additional support as needed.
2. Marketing and Testimonial Support:
- Collaborate with the Engagement Coordinator to collect photos, videos, and testimonials that highlight student engagement and program impact.
- Contribute to creating content for social media, newsletters, and other communication channels to promote New Haven Counts' educational initiatives.
3. High School Liaison:
- Serve as a liaison to your respective high school, actively promoting New Haven Counts' programs and recruiting high school volunteers.
- Hang up flyers, engage classmates, and encourage volunteer involvement to support the growth of our programs.
4. Volunteer Engagement:
- Assist in recruiting high school volunteers and community members to serve as tutors, mentors, and classroom assistants.
- Provide information and answer questions about New Haven Counts' mission, programs, and volunteer opportunities.
