New Heights Charter School is Massachusetts’ only public school that involves all grades (6-12) in the Early College approach. Nearly all of our 11th and 12th graders are full-time students on a college campus with younger students earning college credits at the school. ESL teachers are integral to New Heights Charter School of Brockton’s (NHCSB) mission.
ESL teachers will provide specialized ESL instruction that is designed to advance English language development and foster English language proficiency. ESL instruction includes social and academic language in all four language domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
ESL instruction promotes academic achievement by providing students with systematic, explicit, and sustained language instruction that entails a laser-sharp focus on academic language. ESL teachers are creative leaders who stop at nothing to ensure their scholars’ learning experience is truly powerful.
The ESL Teacher will receive ongoing professional development and frequent, targeted feedback and coaching.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Curriculum development, lesson planning, and grading
- Delivering high quality ESL instruction
- Attending department meetings, co-planning, and co-teaching
- Attending weekly professional development and coaching meetings
- Progress monitoring for ELs, Opt out, and FELs
- Other duties as assigned
