What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Aide/Paraprofessional position at New Hingham Regional Elementary School?
This position combines the responsibilities of a paraprofessional with a library aide, alternating between these roles throughout the week. As paraprofessional, they will assist the classroom teacher by providing instructional, behavioral, social, and emotional support to students with or without disabilities. Depending on the classroom assignment determined each year by the Principal, the paraprofessional may serve as a 1:1 aide with a student identified as needing support in his/her individualized education plan (IEP) or serves as a general education paraprofessional. Duties associated with the library aide position include management and organization of the school library up to 3-days per week. This includes supporting students in accessing the library and its resources. Based on the results of an annual performance evaluation, the Principal determines consideration for continued employment.
Performance Responsibilities:
-Management and general organization of the school library
-Assisting students in accessing books and resources offered within the school library
-Assists in meeting the instructional needs of the students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
-Provides assistance with classroom activities.
-Assists with the preparation of instructional materials.
-Assists with the supervision of students in various settings.
-Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
-Works cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff members.
-Communicates with appropriate school staff about individual student needs while maintaining confidentiality.
-Manages individual and classroom behavior.
-Assists in the implementation of behavioral plans, as necessary.
-Assists with the handling of specialized equipment, such as assistive language devices, etc.
-Attends staff meetings and IEP meetings, when requested.
-Assists in maintaining classroom equipment and instructional materials.
-Assists with feeding, diapering, and toileting, as well as other health-related duties, as required for students with disabilities.
-Promotes a positive learning environment.
-Supports the Principal’s goals, philosophy, and mission of the school.
-Performs all other duties assigned by the Principal, within contractual guidelines.

-Ability to move around the classroom including stooping, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods of time.

-Must be able to supervise students during outside recess in various temperatures.
