Director of Communications – Job Description
The Director of Communications at New Hope Academy will set and guide the strategy for all communications to consistently articulate the mission of the school to both internal and external constituencies. This role is strategic and has a heavy emphasis on brand management. He/She will be a vital member of the leadership team with their work affecting all areas of the school – supporting admissions, development, and all internal needs of communication. This position will report directly to the Head of School. His/her responsibilities will be:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual communications plan in collaboration with Director of Development to support the strategies and goals of the annual Development Plan
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual communications plan in collaboration with the Director of Admissions that supports the goals of recruitment for prospective families and the welcome of new families.
- Manage the production of high-level, brand driven content
- Communicate news and events of the school to internal families regularly through email, website, printed materials, main office television monitor, and the school’s app
- Update external constituencies on the work of the school through email campaigns and newsletters
- Collect high-quality and compelling visual images of school life (both photographic and video)
- Develop and coordinate update of new website if needed to ensure high level of content and visual attraction is compelling and brand driven
- Coordinate webpage maintenance – ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly
- Coordinate the school’s social media presence – currently Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Lead and manage the development of all printed materials produced by the school
- Design (or outsource the design of) graphics for printed and electronic materials
- Ensure that all New Hope publications and materials meet the standards and guidelines of the school’s style guide and increase the guidelines to reflect the school’s standards
- Supervise the preparation and layout of the school’s Annual Report
- Review the effectiveness of marketing efforts through analytics regularly
- Ensure the creation of press releases and managing other media relations as needed
- Coordinate the communication of the school in cases of emergency and crisis
Minimum Qualifications:
- Commitment to the mission and vision of New Hope Academy
- Relationship with Jesus Christ
- Ability and desire to work with a diverse group of individuals
- Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
- Maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
- Problem solving capabilities
- Creativity to produce impactful and compelling content
- Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects with deadlines
- Self-starter, able to work independently
Education Required
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, English, or related field
- 5 years experience of professional experience in communications, marketing, or related field
