New Hope for Families provides shelter and early learning programs that keep families together and lift children into a promising future.
The New Hope Early Learning Center enrolls up to 48 children across our 4 classrooms. We provide child-centered care, focus on Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP), and use an innovative continuity of care model that creates secure, thriving relationships between our teachers and children. In addition, we pursue the highest standards of excellence, attaining level 4 Paths to Quality and national accreditation. Best of all, we reserve half of our enrollment spots in each classroom for families who need it most-- families who have experienced homelessness. We can’t provide top quality childcare without an outstanding staff, and we are looking for someone with the right skills and experience to join our team.
ELC Chef and Nutritional Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of food service, food delivery, and food programming at New Hope for Families. This dynamic position includes the following responsibilities, across both sides of the agency.
Duties
ELC Chef
-Create weekly menus for the children and teachers at The ELC, following CACFP guidelines, and staying within allotted budget
-Manage food inventory for The ELC
-Shop from the grocery store and from Hoosier Hills Food Bank weekly, a minimum of three trips to the food bank per month
-Organize and submit receipts and Hoosier Hills Food Bank invoices
-Clean and sanitize kitchen, including dishes, appliances, carts, floors, and doors
-Maintain food organization systems
-Cook, prep, and serve meals within allotted hours according to CACFP guidelines
-Maintain CACFP records
-Submit monthly CACFP reports
-Train and supervise kitchen volunteers
-Understand and maintain Hoosier Hills Food Bank regulations
-Understand and maintain CACFP regulations
-Understand and maintain licensing, PTQ, and accreditation regulations
-Facilitate weekly cooking experiences with ELC students
-Collaborate with ELC teachers on plot-to-tot curriculum development (Maintaining the garden beds during the growing season and facilitating learning through hands-on gardening with the students)
-Participate in monthly ELC Team meetings
-Represent the agency in a positive, professional manner
-Manage community garden plot located at Switchyard Park
-Participate in planning and facilitating Family Nights and field trips
-Work as an ELC sub as needed
-Maintain 20 training hours a year
-Obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification
-Other duties as assigned
(20 hours per week)
New Hope Nutritional Coordinator
-In coordination with Shelter staff, conduct 3 cooking demonstrations each semester
-Facilitate events meant to provide cooking experience and education for shelter residents
-Make proactive, weekly contact with on-site shelter residents regarding their nutritional needs
-Manage all aspects of New Hope’s on-site food pantry; Sorting donations, managing inventory, keeping records of use etc.
-Manage Hoosier Hills Food Bank reporting for on-site feeding program and food pantry
-Attend all meeting and trainings as required by Hoosier Hills Food Bank
-Other duties as assigned
(5 hours)
This position reports to the ELC Director, and involves collaboration with the ELC Director, the Shelter Director, the Family Services Coordinator, and the ELC Teaching Team.
Requirements
- High School diploma
- Clear background check (paid for by New Hope for Families)
- Negative drug screen (paid for by New Hope for Families)
- Negative TB Test results (paid for by New Hope for Families)
- Ability to stand the majority of the day
- Ability to lift 50lbs
Nice To Haves
- Higher education in: nutritional services, early childhood education, or chef/cook credentials
- Active ServSafe certification
- Understanding of CACFP guidelines and recordkeeping
- Understanding of meal planning and purchasing
- Previous food handling experience
