Summary of Position:
The Resident Services Specialist is responsible for monitoring the activities of the shelter on his/her shift to ensure a safe, manageable, positive energy, living environment. The focus is on the residents/guests and how best to assist them during their stay. The employee is a member of the site team.
Essential Responsibilities:
In performing the duties and responsibilities of this position the Residential Service Specialist will demonstrate adherence to New Hope Housing’s’ core values through:

Some of the essential responsibilities of the Residential Services Specialist include, but are not limited to:
- Ensures a safe and manageable living environment for the shelter/program residents/guest. Monitors resident/guest areas is visible and interacts regularly and informally with shelter/program residents/guests.
- Reads logbook from previous shift worked to note any items that needs attention.
- Completes Incident reports, observations and other documentation required on shift when required. Completes a Full Shift report at the end of the worked shift.
- Conducts Full Security checks inside and outside the building every 30 minutes, document in logbook all locations and concerns.
- Completes essential forms for intake and checkout procedures for resident/guests.
- Consults with Coordinator of Residential Services and case managers regarding residents/guest personal needs, behavior, and service planning.
- Within limits, assists residents/guests in processing issues, problem solving, complaints etc….. Always provides a positive role model for all residents/guests on shifts.
- Maintains all required documentation of residents/guests’ activities on a daily basis.
- Assists in monitoring medication to residents/guest, daily, counts all control and Program medications daily/nightly which includes updating the medication log and following all medication protocols.
- Distributes Cab vouchers with approval from Director, bus tokens, smart trip cards, bedding linens, and toiletries to residents/guest when needed in accordance with established procedures.
- Answers telephones, Transfer calls and routes messages to appropriate staff in a professional manner. Discuss sensitive information in a private setting. Responds to in-person and telephone inquiries from the public about New Hope Housing, Inc. with respect and professionally.
- Supervises resident/guest chores and upkeeping of their personal areas daily. Informs case manager and Supervisor when there are problems that need to be addressed..
- Assists with resident/guest activities as assigned.
- Accounts for all donations received during the shift, Issue receipts to donors, notify the appropriate person and document in logbooks. Controls access to donations and secures donations in an appropriate place.
- Replenishes and organizes supply closet on their shifts when needed, assists in serving and monitoring meals during mealtimes.
- Works flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and over nights as assigned by Supervisor, by arriving on time and working full shift..
- Models a caring, concerned, and respectful attitude toward residents/guests always.
- Maintains adherence to resident/guest guidelines and upholds shelter/programs procedures.
- Is familiar with and complies with policies and procedures, mission of New Hope Housing.
- May orient, and/or monitor court-referred volunteers during shift work.
- Communicates regularly with referring agencies, hospitals, donors and maintains all required documentation, as assigned.
- Participates in all staff meetings and required training.
- Transports residents/guest in agency vehicles, including agency's 15-passenger van on an as needed basis and only when requested by supervisor.
- Light cleaning such as keeping work area cleaned, disinfecting doors , knobs, emptying common area trash cans, wiping down counters, loading dish washer, sweeping and mopping common area floors, etc.……
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director or supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
This position requires the following:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent, and the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and have an interest in working with those who are homeless and the capability to be aware of their needs.
- Experience working with adults experiencing homeless, diagnosed with behavior health disorders or are substance dependent.
- Counseling and crisis intervention skills.
- Clinical experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Computer literate.
- The ability to successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license.
