New Hope of McDowell is a small non-profit agency in Marion, NC. We are professional, supportive and our goal is to provide services that support, empower, and increase the safety of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families, with a focus on community outreach to promote awareness and social change.

Shift Hours: Mon-Fri 30 hours per week. Must be able to work weekends/evenings as needed for community events.

Job Purpose: The Outreach Coordinator coordinates the community activities of the organization and will engage community members in the organization’s mission by organizing and attending community outreach, tabling events, and informational events within the community. Responsibilities of this position include creating outreach materials for distribution, advertising, presenting at civic organizations, businesses, and churches, providing access to trainings, distributing agency related materials, and advancing internal and external marketing activities. This may include ordering merchandise, attending conferences, promotional events, fundraising etc., as well as working with outside institutions and organizations to gain collaborations. Be actively engaged in agency fundraising efforts. The Outreach Coordinator will keep website updated, post on agencies social media sites, promote the outreach thrift store, create and distribute monthly newsletter, and create printable materials to be used for outreach purposes. Assist with HOP pilot services, HOP outreach events, and service delivery to assist clients with accessing crisis assistance services and potentially provide transportation to clients when needed.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in program development and guide of outreach program to be used in the future.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of program with client surveys
  • Website maintenance, review, and updates from a marketing and communication perspective
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of marketing materials including print, web, banner, novelties, etc.
  • Engage in and post on social media and social media strategies as pertinent to New Hope
  • Advertising for, recruiting, screening and managing volunteers
  • Responding to volunteer inquiries and questions and recognizing volunteer efforts with awards and thank-you letters
  • Network with institutions and organizations to create articulation agreements
  • Create innovative means of reaching prospective clients
  • Maintain presentation statistics, daily log entries, volunteer hours, and other record keeping forms by the end of each shift
  • Accept and log donations from outside donors, including assisting donors with picking up donations as necessary
  • Stay up to date on policies, laws, statistics, and other information that affects victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Educate and inform the community through community education, outreach, and other activities as directed by supervisor
  • Monitor effectiveness of outreach efforts
  • Attend and promote community events, fundraisers, and forums on behalf of the Agency
  • Find unique ways to provide outreach to underserved populations
  • Adhere to all agency policies and work rules, including confidentiality, child abuse and neglect reporting, dress code, and code of ethics, while maintaining professional boundaries with all clients served.
  • Provide supervision and activities for agency volunteers during shift.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings on a monthly basis, including trainings as assigned by supervisor.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor, including assistance with specials projects and tasks.
  • Assist clients out in community by providing services, information and referrals

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED and experience working in a related field for at least 6 months.
  • Must complete 20 hours of training before assuming position.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to work sensitively with traumatized populations, including children.
  • Ability to respond to stressful crisis situations appropriately, including deescalating and dissipating the situation.
  • Work well as a member of a team.
  • Possess excellent communication skills including public speaking
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under little supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks: move objects, bend, lift up to 30lbs, walk up and down stairs repeatedly.
  • Must be able to utilize vision and hearing in interactions with clients in a sometimes-noisy environment, with or without corrective devices.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, including the ability to work with Microsoft Office applications such as Access, Excel, Word, and more.
  • Must pass background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates, Bachelors, or Master’s degree in a Human Services related field preferred.
  • Experience working with victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault preferred.
  • Minority and bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
