What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician (PBT, ASCP) (Berea) position at New Horizon Family Health Services?
Under the general supervision of the Medical Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician performs venipuncture as well as a variety of routine laboratory procedures and other diagnostic tests as required by and in support of the Medical Department of the New Horizon Family Health Services, Inc.
- Prepares the patient for specimen collection.
- Establishes positive identification of the patient prior to performing procedures.
- Performs venipuncture and capillary collections(all ages) according to established procedures.
- Accurately labels all specimens collected for and tested in the laboratory.
- Prepares blood, urine and other exudates for examination and testing.
- Performs Point of Care testing according to written and verbal instructions.
- Maintains an accurate log of testing performed using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Various duties in our EHR system (Athena), such as but not limited to: Chart Prep, Pulling Lab Orders, Documentation, Tracking of Lab Orders, and Data Entry.
- Communicates with LabCorp regarding lab orders, billing, collection, tracking, etc.
- Performs and records quality control, cleaning, and maintenance as directed.
- Follows and enforces laboratory safety measures.
- Follows all departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
- Participates in the proficiency testing program.
- Complies with all requirements for testing personnel as specified by CLIA.
Independently collect specimens and perform laboratory testing.
- EDUCATION:
- REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Phlebotomy Certification (Active)
- EXPERIENCE:
- REQUIRED:
- Clinical Experience.
- Experience drawing Geriatric and Pediatric patients
- PREFERRED:
- 1 Year of Phlebotomy Experience
- Proficient with Computers/Email and other forms of communication.
- Must have normal color perception
- Must have excellent manual dexterity
- Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and agency information in confidence, in accordance with the attached Employee Confidentiality Statement.
- Actively participate in and comply with all aspects of the NHFHS Corporate Compliance Program, follow the Program Code of Conduct and obey all relevant laws, statutes, regulations and requirements applicable to Medicaid, Medicare and other State and Federal healthcare programs.
- Participates in CQI, other internal committees, special projects/observances or other activities that promote improvements in organizational performance and/or advance the mission, goals and objectives of New Horizon Family Health Services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the CMO or CEO.

- Proficient in relevant software, tools, and applications necessary for the role.
