What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician (PBT, ASCP) (Floater) position at New Horizon Family Health Services?
- Prepares the patient for specimen collection.
- Establishes positive identification of the patient prior to performing procedures.
- Performs venipuncture and capillary collections according to established procedures.
- Accurately labels all specimens collected for and tested in the laboratory.
- Prepares blood, urine and other exudates for examination and testing.
- Performs laboratory tests according to written and verbal instructions.
- Maintains an accurate log of testing performed using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Performs and records quality control, cleaning, and maintenance as directed.
- Follows and enforces laboratory safety measures.
- Follows all departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
- Participates in the proficiency testing program.
- Participates in CQI, other internal committees, special projects/observances or activities that promote improvements in organizational performance and/or advance the mission, goals and objectives of New Horizon Family Health Services.
- Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and agency information in confidence, in accordance with the Employee Confidentiality Statement.
- Actively participates in and comply with all aspects of NHFHS Corporate Compliance Program, follow the Program Code of Conduct and obey all relevant laws, statutes, regulations and requirements applicable to Medicaid, Medicare, and other State and Federal health care programs.
- Performs other duties as indicated by the Medical Laboratory Manager, Medical Director, Designee and/or Executive Director.
- Complies with all requirements for testing personnel as specified by CLIA.
- Independently collect specimens and perform laboratory testing.
- Has obtained certification as a certified phlebotomy technician and HOLDS a certificate acceptable to NHFHS. Must be certified by a national phlebotomy certification association.
- Completion of phlebotomy course, including an externship in a clinical laboratory setting OR
- If applicants have received on-the-job-training in lieu of a phlebotomy course, one (1) year of work experience.
- One (1) year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Must have experience drawing geriatric and pediatric patients.
- Must be able to follow verbal or written instructions.
- Have working knowledge of basic methods, materials, techniques and equipment used in medical laboratory procedures.
- Have working knowledge of laboratory hazard and safety practices.
- Have working knowledge of specimen collection and preparation.
- Have working knowledge of record keeping and quality control.
- Have ability to make accurate observation and to maintain detailed, accurate, legible records in filing system and record logs.
- Have ability to exercise independent sound judgment in resolving problems related to routine laboratory procedures, housekeeping and maintenance tasks.
- Have excellent manual dexterity.
- Have normal color perception.

JOB SUMMARY
- The FLOATER Laboratory Technician assists the Medical Laboratory Manager with a variety of routine laboratory procedures and other diagnostic tests for New Horizon Family Health Services patients.
- The FLOATER Laboratory Technician shall perform a variety of tasks and related duties as required and outlined in the New Horizon Family Health Services, Inc. Laboratory Technician Position Description.
- The FLOATER Laboratory Technician will be expected to cover all New Horizon lab sites based on coverage needs.
- Must obey all established safety and driving / transportation rules and requirements before, during and after traveling to various sites.
- Performs services on an assigned (Floater) basis at places and times as directed by supervisor.
- Reports to Home Site to assist with tasks unless otherwise specified.
