Assistant Teacher Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Plan and carry out age-appropriate, faith development, academic and social skills daily that is designed to meet the physical and developmental needs of a group of children. This person must be able to effectively supervise other staff assisting in the classroom, be sensitive to the needs of individual children and relate well to both the children and adults.
Responsibilities:
- Help implement lesson plans and activities based on the school's academic expectations, philosophy, and mission statement.
- Guide student behavior through implementing the schools discipline policy while upholding high expectations
- Maintain excellent communication with families through personal conversations upon child’s drop-off/pick-up and parent-teacher conferences
- Provide and exceptional level of quality care to children at all times, demonstrating respect and value towards them as individuals
- Serve food and supervise children during mealtimes
- Maintain the cleanliness of the classroom through the organization of learning materials and light cleaning
- Maintain the cleanliness of each child in the classroom through the proper sanitation procedures, including hand washing, toileting and diaper changing
- Complete daily, monthly and annual paperwork and or online profiles related to students, including food intake, diaper changes, discipline, attendance and interest areas
- Attend and assist monthly staff meetings, family engagement events and staff development trainings
- Other duties as assigned, such as providing general assistance to the director, teachers, parents or students
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Most days, employees will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 20F with wind chill to 90F. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Qualifications:
- Preferred Christian practice (membership in a Christian Church) and ability to communicate the Gospel.
- Early Childhood teaching assistants must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First Aid and CPR Training recommended
- Basic computer literacy skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working with young children in a licensed educational Environment
- Demonstrate the passion, skills, and necessary competency to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 per week
