Environmental Professional
A person who is formally educated in wastewater, chemistry or a science-based curriculum. The person is qualified to act as a subject matter expert in Environmental Wastewater Management.
Purpose:
To implement and manage all aspects of environmental compliance for the site. Ensure safe and efficient operation of the environmental department. This position will have direct reports.

- May plan and monitor appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime.
- May provide recommendations regarding staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action, and termination.
- May prepare and/or deliver performance appraisal for staff.
- Provides daily communication to the management team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Familiarity with EPA, IDEM and local regulations associated with wastewater, air quality, hazardous and solid waste, stormwater, contingency planning and other applicable programs.
- Ability to interpret and apply state and federal regulations.
- Confirm all required testing is completed within the department.
- Update and develop SOP’s within the department.
- Review and analyze data associated with the wastewater treatment plant.
- Make changes to the wastewater treatment plant using data collected through testing, visual inspection, and other observations within the facility.
- File all required environmental reports and permit applications.
- Liaison with regulatory officials. This may include preparing letters, reports or submissions to regulatory agencies.
- Maintain all files that are required by regulators.
- Communicate with consultants, chemical vendors and outside contractors regarding environmental projects.
- Prepare monthly KPI reports for environmental programs.
- Maintain chemical inventory for the wastewater plant.
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems.
- Aptitude to identify new projects and facility improvements necessary to maintain compliance and opportunities to reduce operational costs. This includes providing guidance for continuous improvement efforts.
- Submit service request for maintenance of the facilities, monitor maintenance work, and ensure completion was done properly.
- Prepare and manage annual budgets for the environmental department. This may include the wastewater treatment facility, technical department, and utilities department.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, chemistry, or a science related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local health and environmental regulations.
- Working knowledge of wastewater treatment chemistry.
- Wastewater Class C Operator license.
- Excellent written and verbal communications.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to develop and present materials.
