We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Cogen Superintendent to oversee the cogeneration operations at our paper mill in Oxnard, California. The ideal candidate will play a key role in providing leadership, high level process knowledge, environmental compliance and driving operational efficiency. This position reports directly to the Maintenance/Engineering Manager and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams.
SUMMARY: This business unit manager will plan, organize, and direct the operation of Cogen operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of Cogen boiler, back-up power boiler and mill air systems.
- Ensure all safety and environmental processes and programs are followed consistently.
- Manage operating budget and has responsibility for the financial performance of the operation.
- Develop and implement long-term capital and strategic-improvement plans.
- Lead development of direct reports and union employees toward implementation of a self-directed and reliability-focused organization.
- Communicate business strategy, goals, and initiatives to team members.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Four-year electrical, mechanical, chemical, or pulp & paper engineering degree.
- Minimum 10 years plus of appropriate experience leading power and turbine generator operations
SKILLS
- Proficient at managing outages, shutdowns, and start-ups of Cogen equipment.
- Proficient at managing, scheduling, and training multi-functional teams in a union environment.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve desired results and lead organizational change while adhering to stated Company values.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities to meet short and long-term objectives.
- Outstanding communication skills, includes ability to recognize contributions, make effective presentations, and can quickly build trust and respect.
- Proficient in MS Office software (including MS Project) with a working knowledge of analytical tools like PI Processbook.
- Possesses an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit.
- Well-developed people practice, including strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build lasting relationships, provide recognition and demonstrate integrity and high personal standards.

Work Environment: The paper mill is 24 hours, 7 days a week facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (80 dB).
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to loud, moving mechanical equipment; high precarious places; vapors or corrosive chemicals; hot and cold; blood borne pathogens; and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasionally the employee is exposed to the Mill work environment which can be hot and the noise level is loud
- Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] such as: hard hat, steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses and hearing protection.
Pay Transparency: The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $150,000 annually. Other rewards may include an annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance.
