Research Analyst, Economic Policy
The New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) is the largest and most impactful statewide employer association and business advocate in New Jersey. We are currently seeking a full-time economic policy research professional to join our dynamic government affairs team. This hybrid position includes a mix of remote work and attending NJBIA events and government activities, and it requires the ability to identify emerging issues, develop research options, and conduct analyses on NJ business and overall NJ economic issues. This position will direct and conduct research, including quantitative and qualitative analysis; write reports for internal and external audiences including members, media, policy makers; present to outside stakeholders on research results, work as part of a team of government affairs professionals and work closely with NJBIA interns. This position will also support Focus NJ, an independent research foundation affiliated with NJBIA, by helping to prepare research on NJ economic and workforce trends to educate policymakers and the public.
Responsibilities include:
· Conducts legislative and economic research, providing analysis on issues and policy matters of legislative and regulatory concern, and provides factual information to inform NJBIA positions on legislation impacting the NJ business community.
· Collects and analyzes data using statistical techniques to analyze macroeconomic issues that impact NJ businesses and the overall NJ economy as directed.
· Writes reports analyzing the impact of legislation and laws on the membership, on the NJ economy and on the NJ business climate.
· Drafts, reviews and analyzes legislation.
· Creates content for the association as needed and assists in social media projects and other communications as necessary to promote research and NJBIA.
· Helps recruit, onboard, and oversee a diverse, highly qualified intern and graduate fellow staff.
· Support Focus NJ, conducts research on economic and workforce trends to educate public and policymakers by contract arrangement with NJBIA.
Requirements:
· Experience utilizing modern research techniques, sources and methods to present factual data and reports.
· Experience utilizing statistical analysis and economic impact programs, such as SPSS and IMPLAN and visual analytics tools, including Tableau.
· Solid understanding and ability to apply knowledge in the programs, regulations, practices and procedures of pertinent State departments and agencies, authorities, local government, and school districts.
· Establish work priorities to accomplish goals and meet deadlines.
· Ability to excel in a team based, fast paced environment and be flexible with changing work priorities.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong analytical and project management skills and experience with research report writing.
· Public speaking skills, grant-writing and fundraising preferred.
· Knowledge of NJ and federal government and legislative processes preferred.
Experience:
· At least of 1 year of proven analytical and research skills or college coursework/internship experience in policy research
Education:
· Bachelor degree required
· Major or coursework focus in economics, political science, history, public policy, public administration, government, internal relations, pre-law/legal studies, statistics, or another relevant academic area preferred
