What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resource Specialist (Veteran Services) position at New Jersey Center for Nonprofits?
CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is looking for a Resource Specialist for Bergen County. Under the direction of the Regional Coordinator, the Resource Specialist assists veterans in identifying and obtaining various financial, health care, educational and other pertinent resources; provides community resource information and make appropriate referrals and follow up on referrals and provide any other referrals needed by the community.

- Assess veteran needs and provide information and community referrals including clothing, food, shelter, rapid housing services, rental assistance, general assistance, etc.
- Assist veterans in completing various applications (e.g., food stamp, Medicaid, employment applications, applications for medical discounts, public assistance re-certification paperwork, etc.).
- Stays abreast of community resources available to assist veterans through financial, healthcare, educational and other services that may be needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma / GED or Bachelor’s degree in mental health discipline.
- Knowledge of community resources and how to access them.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to make and maintain contacts and positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance abuse services.
- Proficient in MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.
- Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on aspects of their individual recovery.
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.
