POSITION : ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

POSITION SUMMARY : New Jersey City University (NJCU) seeks a dynamic and innovative scholar for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Educational Technology position. The ideal candidate will have a student-centered focus and a commitment to recruitment, retention, and success of all students as well as a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's mission through meaningful and engaging teaching, innovative research, and service that promotes our students, department, University, and the field of education.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching courses, including doctoral-level and dissertation supervision, advancing an active research agenda, and participating in collaborative service. We particularly encourage applicants with experience in school library media, corporate training, STEAM, or special education, and those who can contribute to an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to the success and growth of our students and our department. Anticipated start date is September 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Teaching : Teach undergraduate, master's, and doctoral-level courses in educational technology, instructional design, assistive technology, school library media, and related areas in all modalities : hybrid, in-person and online
- Research : Establish and maintain a robust research agenda in educational technology or related fields, with a focus on producing high-quality publications. Seek external funding to support research initiatives.
- Curriculum Development : Develop and revise curriculum to incorporate emerging technologies and trends in educational technology, with a focus on improving learning outcomes for diverse student populations.
- Advising and Mentorship : Mentor and advise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, in areas as diverse as answering questions from potential students, to course registration and program planning to academic career development.
- Recruitment and Retention : Actively participate in and develop initiatives that strengthen our enrollment and serve our current students.
- Service : Actively participate in departmental, university, and professional service, including committee work, outreach activities, marketing, and community engagement initiatives. Contribute to initiatives supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate must be able to attend conferences overnight and out of state.
EDUCATION : Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, or a closely related field by the start of the appointment.
QUALIFICATIONS :
o Demonstrated potential for or evidence of teaching excellence at the college / university level, including experience with graduate and / or doctoral-level courses.
o Active research agenda in educational technology with potential for securing external funding.
o Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, with experience working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
o Ability to leverage educational technology to enhance learning outcomes in various educational settings.
o Ability to function both collaboratively and independently in the service of the department and for students.
PREFERRED :
o Experience teaching online and hybrid courses.
o Experience in school library media, STEAM, special education or corporate settings, with a focus on how educational technology supports these contexts.
o Familiarity with emerging technologies (e.g., AI, VR / AR, gamification) and their application in K-12, higher education, or other educational environments.
o Familiarity with learning analytics, educational data mining, or other data-driven approaches to improving teaching and learning outcomes.
o Expertise in applying UDL principles to create inclusive learning environments that accommodate diverse learner needs, including students with disabilities.
o Expertise in evaluating educational programs and conducting assessments to improve instructional effectiveness and learning outcomes.
o Experience in global or international education contexts, which could include cross-cultural instructional design or the implementation of educational technology in diverse cultural settings.
