JOB SUMMARY :

This is a full-time, non-tenure clinical-track position at New Jersey City University commencing in Fall Semester 2025. This appointment does not progress toward tenure, but opportunity exists for future application for a Tenure Track position. NJCU Non-tenured teaching track position, lecturer.

The Department of Nursing seeks a Non-Tenure Clinical Track Instructor whose responsibilities are to include teaching, clinical coordination of undergraduate nursing programs, and service to the university.

The candidate should bring creative pedagogy to didactic, a clinical experience, the simulation lab and contribute to curriculum revision. The clinical coordinator role provides support through the coordination of all students' clinical experiences and by assisting our Program Coordinators and faculty in identifying clinical partners to successfully complete evidence-based learning opportunities.

Candidates should be prepared to mentor students as future nurse leaders, be committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to creating collaborative interdisciplinary learning experiences that expand student understanding of patient-centered care and the needs of our communities.

The Non-Tenure Track faculty candidate would embody the mission and philosophy of the NJCU Nursing Department and represent the university to clinical agencies, students and the community through clinical scheduling and advancing the practice of nursing.

EXPERIENCE : A minimum of 2 years of didactic / clinical teaching expertise is preferred.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES :   Full-time teaching load is six (6) credits each semester which can be clinical or lab and / or didactic teaching (days, evenings, or weekends). Clinical teaching includes off-site or simulation lab settings with pre-and-post-clinical analysis.

Requirements :

  • Master's degree in nursing required from a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission on Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited program
  • Unencumbered license registered nurse in the State of New Jersey, and National Certification in advanced practice area in specialty is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in the specialties of Population Health, Nursing Care of Childbearing Women and Newborns and School Nursing is preferred. Commitment to active, learner centered teaching.
  • Certification in School Nursing

EDUCATION : Master's degree in nursing required from a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education

DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Assess clinical learning outcomes in courses and programs, and teaching approaches to achieve academic program outcomes.
  • Strong clinical nursing skillset and recent teaching experience at the baccalaureate or master's level.
  • Knowledge of nursing curricular design / assessment and BON and / or CCNE accreditation.
  • Experience in using online platforms for web-based instruction and / or distance education.
  • Works effectively as part of the faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, collaborating with other faculty members to meet student needs, participating in faculty meetings and nursing program committees.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other clinical agency sites for nursing students to complete clinical rotations.
  • Obtain signatures and renew and / or terminate contracts between NJCU and clinical sites, based on alignment with clinical objectives.
  • Collaborates with University Counsel to ensure clinical contracts and affiliation agreements are in alignment with state and legal requirements.
  • Manage relationships with existing clinical agency partners to ensure student and clinical site satisfaction and successful clinical experiences for nursing students.
  • Identify and assess concerns related to clinical experiences; facilitate appropriate intervention with faculty and Program Coordinators.
  • Coordinates the onboarding process of incoming students : including frequent communication with incoming students regarding the expected immunizations and student orientation requirements associated with all program tracts; reviewing and approving of these required documents in CastleBranch.
  • Assist and participate in the ongoing nursing program accreditation process including assisting with accreditation reports pertaining to clinical education, including alumni and employer surveys.
  • Assists with the onboarding of new faculty.
  • Identify the number of clinical placements for all program tracts needed each semester, in accordance with the curriculum and expected enrollment.
  • Identify potential healthcare partners for clinical placements and initiate communication with appropriate individuals at the healthcare partners.
  • Maintain a database including agency contact information, requests and placement confirmation or denial, and clinical compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a database with clinical faculty contact information, placement confirmation, and compliance with agency-specific requirements.
  • Travel to clinical sites and the healthcare partners' campuses to evaluate clinical faculty.
  • Develop innovative partnerships with hospital educators and leadership to provide educational services and cultivate relationships to source potential full and part-time faculty.
  • Work with Program Coordinators, Marketing, and Admissions to reach potential students and effectively market clinical strengths of nursing programs.
  • Maintain complete knowledge and understanding of NJCU's curriculum and programs and clearly explain to clinical partners.
  • Facilitate recruitment and selection of adjunct clinical faculty used in assigned student clinical placements for all program tracts.
  • Complete work in a timely manner, including preparing, documenting, and tracking clinical assignments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including data entry in spreadsheets.
  • Prepare reports as assigned

  • SCHOLARLY CLINICAL PRACTICE :

    Scholarly clinical practice is typically demonstrated by the application of knowledge to direct patient or client care and to the delivery of services in the clinical setting; identification, selection and / or development of appropriate clinical sites to provide maximum opportunities for clinical practice; introduction of practice innovations that reflect cutting-edge practice modalities; interpretation and application of nursing research. Faculty members with appointments as clinical faculty are required to concentrate their primary efforts on scholarly clinical practice which forms the basis of their teaching.

  • Communicate the required skills and competencies required of students in a changing health care environment.
  • Maintains current clinical competency and knowledge of current evidence in the literature required to evaluate student performance in the clinical settings.
  • Develop, implement, and assess the clinical placements.
  • Meets all compliance requirements (on-boarding) of the clinical sites assigned at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester.
  • Attends orientation for the clinical sites assigned and simulation.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills competencies and promote learning and simulate the clinical experience in the lab and clinical.
  • SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING :

    All candidates should be prepared to pursue the Scholarship of Teaching in the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning. Effective teachers must demonstrate depth and breadth of knowledge in their discipline, must communicate this knowledge to others, and provide evidence of a continuing development of clinical expertise. Effective teachers communicate enthusiasm for their subject and have a responsibility to create a positive environment for learning and one that stimulates critical thinking. They maintain a critical attitude toward their teaching and strive continuously to improve it.

  • Teaching in the assigned courses as needed in a BSN / MS program, utilizing active learning strategies.
  • Applies principles of adult learning and evidence-based practice.
  • The individual will assume teaching responsibilities, teach assigned clinical and / or lab / classes and develop necessary coursework.
  • Integrate QSEN, inter-professional and other emerging competencies into teaching and learning.
  • Regularly participate in course and program assessment and make improvements in teaching / advising.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in clinical teaching initiatives.
  • Investigate new technology to enhance the learning environment for students' experience using innovative instructional technology with an emphasis on critical thinking and safe practice in the clinical setting.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
