Every applicant should be aware that if selected for this position, you must be prepared to work on-site in the Counties of Cumberland (Bridgeton, NJ), Gloucester (Woodbury, NJ), and Salem (Salem, NJ); travel within the tri-county Vicinage will be required; and the position may be reassigned to another county within the tri-county Vicinage.
The Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem Vicinage seeks Court Interpreters who are able to interpret in the three modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive and simultaneous) and produce translations of official forms, public signs, notices, letters and correspondence.
Court Interpreters appear in court proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings, complimentary dispute resolution events, weddings and other court related events in person or via a telecommunications device. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing introductory information regarding the role of the interpreter to pro se parties and attorneys requiring interpreting services; assisting court employees and others in scheduling interpreting services; orienting, scheduling and invoicing contract interpreters; collecting and entering data into automated recordkeeping systems; and participating in study and training activities in a group or individually in order to develop and maintain interpreting and translating skills. Perform related duties as required.
Remote Work: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired Judiciary employees to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
Salary: The position will be filled at one of the following levels based upon the candidate’s qualifications and the available position. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range.
Court Interpreter 1 (Conditionally Approved/Trainee*)
Salary range: $61,211.50 - $97,043.01
Act as trainee and interpret proceedings of limited legal significance or limited linguistic complexity, and may prepare draft translations of forms, letters and other court-related documents.
Court Interpreter 1 – Journey (Level 2a - Journey)
Salary range: $71,937.01 - $97,043.01
Interpret legal proceedings and translate forms, letters and other court-related documents.
Court Interpreter 2 - Master (Level 3)
Salary range: $76,253.21 - $109,344.22
Interpret complex and/or high-profile legal proceedings, as well as trials involving crimes of the first degree; translate forms, letters and other court-related documents; and mentor Court Interpreters.
*Training Period: Court Interpreter 1-Conditionally Approved/Trainees will have two (2) years from the date of employment to test up to a higher level in order to maintain employment. Court Interpreter 1-Conditionally Approved/Trainees will be on a probationary period until they test up to a higher Level.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Eligible applicants are Court Interpreters approved by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). AOC approved interpreters include interpreters who have passed the written and performance oral exams of the National Center for State Courts administered by the AOC or an equivalent test administered by a member state of the Council of Language Access Coordinators; or who possess the Court Interpreter Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
