SALARY: Court Services Officer Trainee - The salary range for this position is $47,400.76 to $74,716.17 for Schedule A, and $47,400.76 to $70,980.36 for Schedule B.  For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.


SALARY: Court Services Officer 1 - The salary range for this position is $50,815.18 to $83,252.20 for Schedule A, and $50,815.18 to $79,089.59 for Schedule B.  For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. The Superior Court Clerk's Office of the New Jersey Judiciary is seeking individuals with excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills to serve as Court Services Officers 1/Trainees. Candidates may be assigned to any of the units within the Superior Court Clerk’s Office, including records, customer service, administration, public access and court operations. The selected candidates will work under the direction of the Clerk of the Superior Court or other designee and will administratively support the operations of the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.


The selected candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, organization and case management skills required for this position. The selected candidates will be responsible for supporting the operations of the Superior Court Clerk’s Office, including but not limited to producing, generating, and monitoring reports, making appropriate recommendations to enhance policies and procedures, analyzing data for SCCO court operations, data entry and document processing, supporting the SCCO Training Institute and assisting the other teams as needed. The selected candidates will work closely with management to review and implement operational changes to practices and procedures affecting the Clerk’s Office, regularly interact with the public, judges, vicinage staff and attorneys and will serve as the team coordinator for training. The selected candidates will also provide technological support and training to the staff, as well as troubleshoot problems related to document processing, document reviewing and electronic uploading.

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.


  • Write and analyze reports and policy document drafts
  • Recommending improvements in operating procedures, programs, standards, work processes, or administrative practices
  • Evaluate policies and procedures and their effect on operations
  • Review and assign data entry work, as well as complete assigned data entry work
  • Collaborate on policies and procedures
  • Plan implementation and communication of projects
  • Answering questions posed by judges, the public, clients, customers, complainants, co-workers, subordinates, or supervisors
  • Explaining judiciary policies or procedures
  • Inform managers about employee's, client's, or customer's work progress or related matters
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications for a Court Services Officer Trainee:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Substitution: Current New Jersey Judiciary employees who do not possess the required education may substitute: Additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case-related information which shall have included the exercise of judgment and discretion, and one or more of the following; reviewing cases to identify case management and discovery needs, coordinating with judges and attorneys to resolve case issues and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations.  This experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate's degree and two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience as described above.

Note: Appointees who successfully complete the twelve-month training period will be eligible for advancement to the Court Services Officer 1 title.

Minimum Qualifications for a Court Services Officer 1:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and one year of paraprofessional experience in case management involving gathering, reviewing and verifying case-related information which shall have included one or more of the following: conducting investigations, monitoring casework flow, interviewing clients or customers for needed information, preparing investigative fact-finding reports and/or writing case notes or other case-related correspondence.    
 
Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional or professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits.  An associate's degree and two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Driver's License:  Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work:  US citizenship is not required.  Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note:  Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.  All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law:  In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
