SALARY:  The hourly rate for this position is $41.83.

The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a graphic designer to coordinate, develop and design publications and web graphics. Under the direction of the Court Executive 2b (Manager of Publications and Automated Forms Unit), the individual will work independently while using creative critical thinking and problem-solving skills to execute and facilitate graphic design projects from conception to completion. These include the design and layout brochures, pamphlets, and reports, researching stock photos and preparing graphics for daily updates to web sites; meeting with content providers to develop and articulate graphic design needs for print and electronic publications, assisting with the production of photography to be used in print and electronic publications and designing exhibits and displays for special statewide events.


 

  • Plan the implementation of assigned projects such as an ongoing redesign project for updating all publications, both internal and external.
  • Ensure the Judiciary's branding guidelines, identity, and standards are being met and that all publications meet ADA compliance.
  • Stay apprised of and analyzes trends in design, particularly those used by other government organizations.
  • Provide technical advice to staff and management regarding graphic design processes for both Judiciary publications and the Judiciary website.
  • Develop and establish new and innovative ways to prioritize and handle productivity of fast-faced workload.
 
NOTE: Experience with graphic design, graphic arts, or digital illustration, is a must; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and HTML software such as Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Word and Publisher are preferred. Applicants selected to interview will be required to bring their portfolio and a design sample at the time of the interview.

This position is limited to a maximum of 944 hours in a fiscal year.

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's Degree and five years of professional experience in program development, program coordination, program analysis, program administration and/or administrative research.
 
Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate's degree and two years of additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. A master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience. A law degree may be substituted for two years of experience.

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching.  The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Driver's License:  Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work:  US citizenship is not required.  Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note:  Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law:  In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
