The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage is recruiting undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in law and justice for our Unpaid Legal Intern Program’s Summer 2025 Cohort. This is a structured, 9-week experience with our vicinage’s Superior Court Judges. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn many aspects of case processing and gain practical experience and valuable insight into the judicial process in our Civil, General Equity (Chancery), Criminal, and Family Divisions.
Selected candidates are expected to serve for the full duration of the summer program which will start on June 2, 2025, and conclude on August 1, 2025. Interns are expected onsite for a minimum of ten (10) hours per week during the program. Some travel within the multicounty vicinage is required as modules may be hosted in Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and Cape May Court House.
Ideal candidates will be organized, detailed-oriented individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, legal research, and writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is helpful. Satisfactory completion of one year of law school or current enrollment as a first-year law student with substantial legal writing experience is preferred.
Qualifications
Undergraduate students who are attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. Many schools will give course credit for work experience. Please check with your school regarding receiving credit for unpaid internship work experience.
Supplemental Information
Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Special Note: Unpaid intern applicants who are 18 years of age or older must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
