We’re a stealth-mode startup that helps consumers ensure that their most important consumables—water, food packaging, and soil—are free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals.” Our best-in-class detection technology allows us to bring fast, accurate, and affordable testing services to health- and environmentally conscious consumers, at scale for the first time.
As part of the NJII Venture Studio, the company will have access to a robust ecosystem designed to support early-stage ventures, providing back-office resources, mentorship, and industry connections to help accelerate growth. Additionally, it will be fully capitalized for up to 18 months, allowing the executive team to focus entirely on building and scaling the business.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead this venture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in direct-to-consumer (D2C) marketing and a proven track record of building and scaling startups. As CEO, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow the business initially from zero sales to over $100K in monthly revenue within 12 months.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategic Leadership: In partnership with the NJII Venture Studio, develop and execute the company’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs. This includes an 18-month “Sprint Plan” to be executed during the venture’s incubation period.
· Business Development: Build and refine the business model to achieve rapid market penetration and scalability, targeting over $100K in monthly revenue within 12 months.
· Market Positioning: Identify and capitalize on market opportunities, establishing [Insert Company Name] as a leader in the PFAS detection space.
· D2C Marketing Strategy: Create and implement effective marketing strategies that drive customer acquisition and retention in the D2C market. Utilize digital marketing channels, social media, and influencer partnerships to maximize reach and impact.
· Sales Processes: Develop a sales strategy to achieve aggressive growth targets, including establishing KPIs to measure progress and adjust tactics as necessary.
· Collaboration with NJII: Work closely with the NJII team to hit agreed-upon milestones, leveraging NJII’s resources, connections, and mentorship to accelerate growth and enhance operational efficiency.
Prerequisite Qualifications
· Proven experience as a CEO or in other managerial roles within a startup environment, with a strong focus on D2C businesses.
· Demonstrated success in building and scaling early-stage companies, with a track record of achieving significant revenue growth
· Strong background in direct-to-consumer marketing, with a deep understanding of customer acquisition strategies and brand development.
· Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
· Strong analytical mindset and data-driven approach to decision-making.
· Passion for environmental sustainability and consumer health, with a commitment to addressing public concerns related to PFAS contamination.
