Position Summary :
The position is principally responsible forinstalling, configuring and maintaining servers, storage systems, workstationsand other computer systems that comprise the IT infrastructure supporting universityIT services. The position supports both physical, virtual and cloud basedcomputer systems in a multi-platform environment and works collaboratively witha wide range of business, technical and IT service staff. The position exhibitsgood problem-solving ability and resourcefulness and is competent to work onfairly complex systems administration initiatives with only generalsupervision.
Essential Functions :
- Installs, configures, maintains and supports computer systems that include, but are not limited to : (a) enterprise virtual servers, cloud based servers, physical servers, storage, backup systems; (b) operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows, Mac); (c) Active Directory and other technical services (DFS, DNS, DHCP, GPO) and associated domain policies and procedures; (d) commercial, open source, and locally developed software; (e) middleware and database software; (f) cloud services (IaaS and PaaS).
- Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
- Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IST policies and procedures.
- Monitors, tunes, and optimizes system and / or application performance; performs benchmarks and evaluates results.
- Troubleshoots hardware and software problems; interacts with suppliers.
- Writes scripts for a variety of purposes including the automation of tasks.
- Ensures computer system data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
- Ensures recover ability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
- Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations, servers, and systems to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
- Maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database / library of all supporting documentation.
- Maintains proper documentation for change control and for audit purposes.
- Participates as a team member in large systems administration projects.
- Assists in the evaluation and planning for new services including hardware, software, and new technologies.
- Plans for and responds to service outages and other problems within the university enterprise IT infrastructure.
- Resolves Level II and Level III incidents and service requests reported to the IST Service Desk.
- Assists with computing forensic analysis and security incident response.
