Summary
Processes all cuts of beef, lamb, and pork products and is responsible for ordering and maintaining production schedules. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Requirements:
Customer Service Skills
Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information, and assists in locating products throughout the store. Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
Education and/or Experience
Basic ability to read and interpret documents required.
Mathematical Skills
Basic math and computation skills are required.
Reasoning Ability
Skills to read, understand, and follow through on verbal and written instructions. Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
Knowledge of English (Preferred)
This is a customer service-driven position. Should have the ability to speak, read, and understand English.
Physical Demands
This position works at a Heavy level. Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout the shift. Sitting is seldom required. Up to occasionally, dependent on location, required to climb stairs, step stools, and /or ladders. Continuously required to: lift 1-10 pounds; push/pull 1-10 pounds; use arms, hands, and wrists; grasping/squeezing. Frequently required to: lift 11-20 pounds; twist; reach at/above shoulder; reach below shoulder. Occasionally required to: carry 1-50 pounds; push/pull 11-20 pounds; bend/stoop; crouch/squat; reach at/above shoulder.
This position may require to use of the following tools and equipment: box knife, baler, scanner, hand truck, POS, conveyer belt, industrial kitchen equipment (i.e. blast chiller, grill, knives/blades, oven, grills, scales, etc.), basic housekeeping / janitorial and standard office equipment.
Work Environment
Work occurs in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that can be wet and slippery, moderate noise levels, and temperature extremes in controlled environments in the cooler and freezer, and depending on location, working outside in all temperatures. There may be exposure to certain allergens and/or chemicals. - Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy, dating, and government regulations regarding tare weights and the COOL Act.
- Ensures all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed by company standards.
- Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals. Maintains professional vendor relationships.
- Stock, rotate, and face cases. Adheres to Merch standards, category schematics, quality, and expiration dates.
- Maintains awareness of industry trends, current ads, promotions, holidays, and events. Plans for weekly ads, events, and holidays using tools and reports. Works with Meat Manager to understand and respond to specific location trends.
- Assesses and adjusts production needs based on sales and is responsible for production schedule. Maintains production levels and updates production guide.
- Guides the work of backup meat cutters, including planning and assigning work, ensuring quality standards, training staff, and overseeing their productivity.
- Partners with the department management team to maintain excellent department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, staffing, and service levels.
- Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, and counts for accuracy and condition. Communicates any issues to management and the merchandising team.
- Assists customers with product selection. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
- Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department, including terminology, cuts, recommended product uses, vendor/supplier information, and product labeling, with the ability to continue learning.
- Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
- Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
- Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meets merchandising standards.
- Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers, and credits.
- Handles damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
- Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
- May participate in other activities, such as inventories, scheduling, and performance reviews.
- Notifies the department manager or Manager on Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security, or any other situation that may hurt the store.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
