What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial/Maintenance position at New London Local School Dist?
The Custodial/Maintenance is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment within the school facilities. This position involves performing a variety of custodial and entry-level maintenance duties according to the guidelines set forth by the Ohio School Facilities Commission.
Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Sanitizing:
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, including replenishing supplies.
Disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs and light switches.
Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste.
Maintenance and Repairs:
Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
Assist in minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as:
Changing light bulbs.
Repairing minor plumbing issues.
Painting and touch-up work.
Adjusting or repairing doors and windows.
Putting up and taking down items on walls
Replacing filters in the HVAC system
Repairing minor leaks on the low slope roof
Perform basic electrical, fuel line, water line, HVAC, and/or plumbing tasks as assigned by the department supervisor
Monitor and report issues with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Safety and Security:
Ensure that all entrances and exits are secure.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals.
Report any safety hazards or concerns immediately.
Event Support:
Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events.
Assist with preparing facilities for special functions.
Groundskeeping:
Keep the exterior of the school clean and well-maintained.
Clear walkways and entry areas of snow and ice during inclement weather.
Plow snow from roadways and parking lots during inclement weather
Properly maintain lawns/grass of school property, including athletic fields
Effectively remove dead and/or fallen trees from school grounds
Inspect, repair, and maintain playground equipment
Spread mulch in district playgrounds
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with other custodial staff and facility management.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Effectively use district provided platforms including email and facilities management programs.
Adhere to expectations found in the N.L. Facilities Department Handbook
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience in custodial or related work.
Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and the use of cleaning equipment.
Basic understanding of entry-level maintenance tasks.
Ability to follow safety guidelines and work independently.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
The position involves regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and may require work during evenings or weekends for special events or emergencies.
