What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Specialist I position at NEW LONDON PUBLIC SCHOOLS?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Network Manager, the Technology Specialist I provides hardware, software, network communications, computer support/documentation, and consultation to the organization on resolutions and services related to computing and information technology. This position requires a high degree of independence, flexibility, and troubleshooting skills.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to desktop and laptop computer hardware as well as printers, projectors, tablets, and peripheral devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve end user issues related to computer desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Chrome, as well as applications specific to education.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network LAN issues such as client\server connectivity issues.
- Manage Chromebook and iPad devices using MDM software.
- Install hardware upgrades such as memory, hard drives, power supplies, and motherboards on end user desktop and laptop machines.
- Perform desktop/laptop re-imaging tasks.
- Perform inventory tasks as needed.
- Install software applications that are specific to education.
- Install software updates to desktop and laptop machines as appropriate.
- Install desktop operating systems such as Windows 10, and Mac OS X.
- Utilize software such as Remote Desktop and VNC software to troubleshoot and resolve issues remotely.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of computer hardware - desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, smartphones, etc.
- Understanding of business desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite as well as software that is specific to education
- Excellent follow-up, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Basic understanding of Windows 10, Mac OS X, Chrome OS, IOS and networking concepts
- Experience with building, assembling, and repairing desktop computers
- Work locations may vary by day, must be able to get to off-site locations in the New London area
- Physical requirements including the ability to sit for extended periods of time, the ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and movements such as bending, stretching, reaching, or stooping
- Successful completion of required background checks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Technology certifications such as A , Network or Microsoft certifications
- Previous experience in an educational support role
- Bilingual, (English and Spanish)
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by the Network Manager
