We are, a freestanding, physician-owned, comprehensive cancer center based in Albuquerque, NM with a satellite clinic in Gallup, New Mexico. We are an Oncology Medical Home, with a focus on early intervention for patient symptoms, resulting in low hospitalization rates. Our Physicians have won Top 10 Docs in the city of Albuquerque multiple times.
As a successful Medical oncology and Radiation oncology practice, we have expanded our medical practice to include Survivorship, palliative care, Primary Care, Rheumatology, Pulmonary, Urology and Sleep Center.
POSITION SUMMARY:

This position must demonstrate sensitivity and professionalism while assisting patients with scheduling and follow-up needs.

Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Schedules, cancels, or reschedules all Medical Oncology/Radiation or Oncology/Radiology follow-up appointments.
- Removes cancelled or rescheduled appointments from the physicians’ schedules.
- Contacts patients regarding missed appointment and follows up on no show appointments.
- Cancels appointments of deceased patients within an appropriate timeframe.
- Transcribes physician orders appropriately using physician’s current orders.
- Schedules outside facility laboratory and radiology testing, internal scan testing, and/or radiology consultations building lab requisitions and lab and vitals.
- Assists physicians with hospitalizations as requested.
- Initiates prior authorizations as needed for outside diagnostic testing as required by the patient’s health insurance plan within the scope of the position.
- Monitors and reviews the physicians’ schedules on a daily basis, ensuring templates are followed and scheduling errors are corrected PRIOR to the patient arriving for the visit.
- Communicates openly and effectively with the physicians and professional staff.
- Answers all phone lines in the POD promptly and professionally. Calls should be screened, messages taken, and the appropriate physician should be notified in a timely manner.
- Notifies Chart Prep and the Front Desk promptly of any add-on appointments, as well as notifies the “chemo scheduler” of any add-ons for the day.
- Assists with chart prep and scanning.
- Collects co-pays and co-insurance from patients and ensures all balancing is completed daily.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Three to seven years related experience
- Minimum of two years experience as a Patient Care Coordinator or Medical Assistant
- Medical Oncology, Radiology Oncology, or Surgery Scheduler work experience a plus
Computer Skills:
- Intermediate computer skills and ARIA
