Why does the job exist?
The psychiatrist primary responsibility is the care of all patients admitted to NMBHI. The psychiatrist meets with all patients on assigned units and works with an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide the highest quality of care.
How does it get done?
Diagnose, treat, and provide the patient care throughout treatment.

Patients/Residents/Clients
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have:
Experience in inpatient psychiatry;
Experience evaluating and diagnosing patients;
Experience prescribing medications to patients with serious mental illness and monitoring the effectiveness of side effects of these medications;
Experience working on an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
Minimum Qualification
Requires a license to practice medicine in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Possess Internal Medicine or Family Practice Board Certification, an active controlled substance license, and DEA registration in New Mexico. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements
Position will perform work primarily in an office setting with extensive computer and phone usage and exposure to Visual /Video Display Terminal. Lifting up to thirty (30) pounds may be required. Effective 01/01/2015, the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute became a 100% Tobacco Free/E-Cigarette Free Campus. As such, no tobacco, tobacco products or E-Cigarette products are permitted on any part of the campus. Work hours are 8 am to 5 pm.
