Why does the job exist?
This position will provide therapeutic recreational activities within an established recreational program at a long-term care facility, to improve and enhance resident's coordination, motor skills and cognitive level as part of the resident's treatment plan.
How does it get done?
By conducting recreation activities with groups or one to one, by organizing and promoting activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, camping, and hobbies, taking into account the needs and interests of individual members.
Who are the customers?
Residents at a long-terms care facility.
Ideal Candidate
Will have:
The ability to manage the daily operation of recreational activities
The ability to organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities, such as arts crafts, sports, games camping and hobbies.
The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
The ability to assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities accordingly.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Successful completion of a criminal background check is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver¿s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Position will require a New Mexico Nursing Assistant Certification within twelve (12) months of employment.
Working Conditions
Will transport and assist wheelchair bound residents, drive resident to out of facility outings, work with mental and behaviorally challenging residents who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
