The Department of Chemistry at New Mexico Highlands University is seeking two Undergraduate Research Assistants to work in the research lab of Dr. Nabanita Saikia, Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry. This research focuses on understanding the interaction of dietary flavonoid molecules with noncanonical nucleobase pairs. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in computational biochemistry and molecular modeling techniques while contributing to ongoing scientific investigations.

- Routine data entry

- Scanning and making copies
- Training new hires
- Managing schedules
- Providing support to students (tutors, peer mentors, orientation leaders)
- Conduct presentations
- Managing confidential information
- Maintain regular attendance
- Perform other job duties as assigned
- Conduct literature searches and review relevant research articles.
- Assist with data collection methods, such as computational modeling, simulations, or analytical studies.
- Organize and maintain research data using appropriate software tools.
- Analyze data under faculty guidance, including basic statistical and computational analysis.
- Prepare research reports and presentations summarizing findings.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with research ethics and safety guidelines.
Education:
Preferred Qualifications
- College student at NMHU enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours
- High School Diploma or GED
- No experience to some clerical/office experience
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Interest in computational chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular modeling.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
