What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Aide I position at New Mexico Highlands University?
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and inspection of safety related aspects at New Mexico Highlands University (Highlands). The EHS Department provides multiple functions to the campus; however, the primary responsibility is to implement health and safety practices for the University and inspect and maintain the fire suppression systems on campus. The EHS Department will provide experience for employees seeking job opportunities in: fire suppression, fire prevention, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) related jobs, safety management, public safety, and/or chemical handling.
General Job Description Specific Duties
Job description may include routine, varied, and moderately complex duties involving a moderate degree of responsibility and judgment. May require previous training or equivalent experience. May direct or coordinate activities of other student employees.
Skills and/or Duties:
- Routine data entry
- Answering phones; greeting customers; taking messages
- Scanning and making copies
- Training new hires
- Managing confidential information
- Maintain regular attendance
- Perform other job duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, etc.). • Ability to maintain work area in clean and organized fashion. • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, University community, and the general public. • Ability to use radio communication.
