Position Summary
The incumbent in this position will be based at the Albuquerque Center (with occasional office hours in Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Farmington, Las Vegas, and other sites as needed) and will be responsible for assisting undergraduate and graduate social work student regarding all aspects of academic advisement and support. The incumbent will also be knowledgeable about articulation agreements, programs offered and conduct transfer analysis. The incumbent will be a team member with student support staff at the Facundo Valdez School of Social Work at Albuquerque.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise social work students on academic requirements and selection of courses, including performing and interpreting social work degree audits and graduation plans.
- Evaluate and determine the transfer of credit to determine transferability of prospective BSW students.
- Assist prospective MSW students.
- Monitor and assist with student registration activities (banner) and recommend solutions to academic difficulties.
- Certify benefits for and maintain files for Albuquerque VA (Veteran's Administration) social work students.
- Advise and assist social work students regarding : 1) financial aid, 2) business office, 3) bookstore, 4) registrar's office and / or refer students to the appropriate specialized staff. Work closely with faculty advisor of social work students.
- Be a student advocate when appropriate; work closely with and serve as resource for social work faculty / staff.
- Coordinate communications to students regarding times such as registration deadlines, academic probation, add / drop deadlines, complete withdrawal deadline, etc,; this could include the maintenance of a student listserv, approved University social media, etc.
- Supervise work study student(s).
- Direct and manage the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of social work orientations for social students (new student orientation, transfer orientation, etc.).
- Develop social work advising materials and presentation to support individual and group student sessions.
- Coordinate and assist students with Campus Life Activities.
- Serve as liaison and foster productive relationships with other advisors, offices, colleges, and departments.
- Maintain close working relationship with transfer institutions such as CNM and UNM.
- Represent School of Social Work at community / recruitment events as time permits (such as transfer fairs), and / or recruit faculty members to assist.
- Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, changes in curriculum, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
- Engage in professional development activities, including departments / University training sessions.
- Stay current with information technology skills; use technology to carry out duties, such as Zoom (videoconferencing).
- Participate in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives within the School of Social Work.
- Participate in institutional student development and retention programs as it regards social work students.
- Demonstrate respect for all individuals; demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and language differences.
- Facilitate enrollment management reports to include but not limited to tracking social work graduation status, retention, student course loads, etc.
- Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures.
- Understand FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
- Participate fully as team member at Albuquerque Center, in include assisting with periodic special events.
- Be available to assist and work with social work staff and faculty at other sites.
- Maintain accurate records (including electronic records) of interactions with students.
- Responds to email and phone inquiries in a timely manner, within 24 hours.
- Maintain regular attendance
- Support and collaborate with other school projects, institutes and centers.
- Support and collaborate with projects such as academic advising, enhanced advising, orientations, online programs, information sessions, and others as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education : Bachelor's degree in any field.
Experience : Two (2) years of academic / career advising or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred :
Master's Degree in any field.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and odd hours.
