What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Inventory Control Specialist position at New Mexico Junior College?
The Part-Time Inventory Control Specialist shall report to the Controller. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.This is a Part-time position.

- Maintains property accounts and inventory records, provides initial input for capital inventory into computer; processes and files all inventory transfers, deletions, surplus and salvage inventory, etc.; processes and affixes inventory identification numbers to capital and departmental assets using computer barcoding and tracking system
- Maintains database with photos of inventory and listing of equipment checked out to employees.
- Reconciles all physical inventories; coordinates and prepares a list of all items for auction; reconciles subsidiary reports to general ledger accounts; updates and maintains hardware and software for the inventory tracking system; performs necessary paperwork and sets up batch files as required for the Business Office.
- Performs general office duties such as incidental typing and filing of various records and reports; conducts or participates in conducting physical inventories, moving equipment, furniture, and supplies.
- Updates, codes, and maintains Higher Education space utilization and building classification data for buildings and rooms on an ongoing basis; works with department heads in tracking asset locations.
- May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
- Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some clerical experience preferred.
- May be required to possess a valid New Mexico or Texas driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
- Knowledge of property control and inventory practices and inventory computerized systems.
- Knowledge of record-keeping methods and techniques and general office procedures.
- Skill in both verbal and written communication.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public.
- Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
- Ability to match names and numbers quickly and accurately.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations.
- Ability to learn and apply inventory control methods and safe methods of moving supplies and equipment.
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment and calculators, including computer proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets (preferably Windows Excel, Word) and on-line fiscal or inventory tracking application systems, printers, copy machines, and fax machines.
