Job Title: Part-Time Library Assistant
The Part-time Library Assistant will report to the Director of library Services. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Qualifications
• Knowledge of college policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
• Knowledge of general library procedures/policies and integrated library system (ILS) functions.
• Knowledge of procedures of various interlibrary loan networks, copyright guidelines and location, and verification tools sufficient to coordinate interlibrary loan activity.
• Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment.
• Knowledge of proper public contact and telephone etiquette.
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Skill in dealing with the public, and utilizing appropriate customer service techniques.
• Skill in both verbal and written communication.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public.
• Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Ability to operate various types of office machines such as personal computers, photocopying machines, microfilm/microfiche readers sufficient to locate catalog information.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
• Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule in order to cover the operating hours of the library.
• Ability to train and assign student workers, and advise professional library staff sufficient to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.
• Position may require the ability to safely move up to 50 pounds.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
This is a part-time position. Up to, but not to exceed 29 hours per week. Fall/Spring Semesters Monday - Thursday: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Summer Semester Up to 29 hours per week between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Part-time Library Assistant will report to the Director of library Services. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the circulation area in an organized and efficient manner; circulating library materials utilizing an automated system (ILS); maintaining patron database; providing reserve service and directional information; referring library users to the appropriate reference area; sorting and shelving library materials and shifting library collections; creating new book displays; identifying materials that require repair/maintenance.
- Providing customer service to College students, faculty, staff, and local patrons; assigning and leading the daily work activities of student workers assigned to circulation.
- Coordinating the processing of hold and recall requests and notifying library users of availability; resolving overdue recall issues following established guidelines; collecting, recording, and tabulating fines and fees; may assist with cataloging duties; interpreting and enforcing library and college policy and procedures; interacting appropriately with library patrons and referring problems and in-depth reference inquiries to a higher level of supervision.
- Monitoring and tracking Estacado Library Information Network (ELIN) consortium loans; sending and receiving items; responding to consortium loan requests.
- Scheduling library study room reservation requests; maintaining electronic room scheduling system.
- Generating standard reports on overdue materials, collection maintenance, statistics, and fine money management.
- Tracking missing issues of periodicals; preparing items for access/display.
- Generating general library and office supply orders.
- Serving as a building coordinator for the library, and submitting maintenance work orders as required.
- May serving on various campus committees as assigned.
- Performing other duties as assigned or required.
