What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Nursing Success Coach position at New Mexico Junior College?
The Part-time Nursing Success Coach shall report to the Director of Nursing. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Availability to tutor after normal classroom hours (late afternoons, evenings, weekends).
- Meet with students individually and in small groups to reinforce and support their understanding of content taught in nursing courses.
- Assist students in applying nursing concepts and critically thinking about course content and how it applies on exams, in lab/simulation, and clinical.
- Use available assessments, information from faculty/Retention Specialist and student input to help target areas of student need. Adapt tutoring methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and abilities.
- Motivate, support, and empower students to expand their subject area confidence and assist them in defining academic success and monitoring progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
- Develop content-related tutoring materials in collaboration with faculty.
- Develop rapport and maintain contact with students, faculty, advisors, and campus services.
- Encourage thoughtful, self-reflective assessment.
- Promote cooperation and mutual respect among students.
- Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
- Assist Retention Specialist in tracking student success.
- Refer students to other New Mexico Junior College support services as needed.
- Support the stated mission, policies, and procedures of New Mexico Junior College.
- Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
- Active New Mexico Registered Nursing license or Multi-state license
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA policies in accordance with New Mexico Junior College’s policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate a respectful, supportive, and non-discriminatory attitude towards nursing students and faculty
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and collaborate with nursing faculty regarding student needs and strategies for retention
- Excellent communication skills
