Description

New Mexico Junior College seeks a deeply committed and experienced leader to provide strategic vision, executive leadership, and direction for the Student Services Division. The Dean of Students, the Dean of Student Success, the Director of Financial Aid, the Director of the Thunderbird Health Center, and the Registrar report directly to the Vice President for Student Services.


The Student Services Division includes the following services: Academic Coaching, Academic Success Center, Student Housing and Dining, Mental Health Counseling, Accessibility Services, Acute and Preventive Physical Care, Thunderbird Food Pantry, Student Support Services (TRIO), Financial Aid, and Student Records and Registration Services.


The VPSS reports to the President, is a member of the Executive Cabinet, and serves on the President’s Council. To further our college-wide dedication to serving our students, the VPSS works collaboratively and creatively with deans, faculty, support staff, and all members of the Executive Cabinet, particularly with the Vice President of Instruction, to ensure comprehensive support for all students.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Chief Student Services Officer of the College, leading all student-related services and initiatives.
  • Chairs the Student Success Committee and oversees the development, submission, and execution of the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan.
  • Advises the President on student services policies and strategic priorities.
  • Provides regular reports to the President, Board of Directors, and relevant Board Committees.
  • Actively supports student extracurricular activities and intercollegiate athletic contests.
  • Serves as Title IX Coordinator.
  • Maintains the Vice President of Student Services budget and oversees other Student Services budgets, ensuring alignment with the College’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Enhances cross-departmental collaboration with Workforce Development to expand student support initiatives.
  • Utilizes data-driven decision-making informed by understanding the NMJC community and culture.
  • Serves on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in student development, higher education, educational leadership, or a related field is required. 
  • At least five years of progressively responsible post-secondary institutional experience, including at least five years supervising Student Services units. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with diverse student populations and a dedicated commitment to the academic development of all students and working knowledge of current and emerging technologies.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The salary range for this position is $145,000 to $155,000.
