Summary : We are seeking a skilled Software Developer to assist in the full lifecycle development of advanced software systems and tools related to edge AI, system optimization, and other innovative technologies. This role involves designing, coding, testing, and deploying applications, with a focus on enhancing system performance, ensuring software quality, and integrating solutions within existing frameworks. Responsibilities include software development, analysis and design, system optimization, edge AI integration, quality assurance, documentation, and technology evaluation. Experience with object-oriented design and various programming languages is desired.

Classification Summary : Using established procedures and working under immediate supervision, performs assigned tasks related to providing functional and empirical analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of software operating systems on a classified project, including but not limited to, utility software, development software, and diagnostic software. Participates in the development of test strategies, devices and systems.

Classification Standard Duties : Works as part of a Government / contractor team. Using established procedures and working under immediate supervision, performs task such as : Full lifecycle application development. Designing, coding and debugging applications in various software languages. Software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, software review, identification of code metrics, system risk analysis, software reliability analysis. Object-oriented Design and Analysis (OOA and OOD). Software modeling and simulation. Front end graphical user interface design. Software testing and quality assurance. Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation. Support, maintain and document software functionality. Integrate software with existing systems. Evaluate and identify new technologies for implementation. Project Planning and Project Management. Maintain standards compliance. Implement localization or globalization of software. Work is routine and instructions are usually detailed. Little evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required of this classification.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The R&D Software Developer, Assc will work collaboratively as part of a government-funded research and development team on projects supported by the NSF and DOE. The position focuses on the development of advanced software systems and tools related to edge AI, system optimization, and other cutting-edge technologies in power systems and energy applications. This role involves assisting in full lifecycle software development, including designing, coding, testing, and deploying applications that support the goals of the research projects. The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing system performance, ensuring software quality, and integrating solutions with existing frameworks.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Software Development : Perform full lifecycle application development, including designing, coding, debugging, and testing in various programming languages.
  • Analysis and Design : Conduct software, code, and requirements analysis; develop object-oriented design (OOD) and modeling to support project objectives.
  • System Optimization : Contribute to the development and improvement of system performance, usability, and scalability through advanced optimization techniques.
  • Edge AI and System Integration : Design and implement software solutions leveraging edge AI and integrate them into existing systems to support research goals.
  • Quality Assurance : Conduct software testing, performance tuning, and quality assurance to ensure system reliability and compliance with project standards.
  • Documentation and Support : Document software functionality, provide maintenance and support for developed systems, and ensure compliance with localization / globalization standards when required.
  • Technology Evaluation : Research and evaluate emerging technologies and tools for potential implementation in ongoing and future projects.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
