Special Education Teacher -

The Department of Special Services is looking for a dynamic teacher for our grades 2-3 IBC program that services students with Autism. This is a tenure-track position. Candidates must have experience working with students on the spectrum and ABA methodology. Candidates should have strong communication skills for working with families and instructional assistants. Looking for someone who is creative, energetic and willing to work on a team. Knowledge of ABA methodology, behavior management, and data collection is a plus. Special education teaching certificate required.

The following experiences are an integral part of the position :

  • Experience with ABA methodology
  • Use of AAC devices
  • Determining appropriate instructional programs through collected data
  • Working with BCBA regarding student behavioral challenges
  • Communicate effectively with parents about progress and home support
  • Teach students with special needs using a various methods and materials
  • Provide a learning environment using best practices for students with ASD
  • Model academic and social expectations
  • Collect and analyze data gathered from various developmental appropriate sources and use the data to determine appropriate instructional programs
  • Attend IEP meetings along with department and school-based meetings
  • Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding
  • Manage the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment
  • Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept
  • Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate
  • Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members
