Job Title: Datacenter Tech/IT Network Engineer I
Job Location: Watertown, Massachusetts onsite
Job Type: long-term Contract
A global insurance company is seeking a Datacenter Tech to join their office in Watertown, Massachusetts. The Datacenter Tech is required to be onsite standard business hours with weekends and nights as needed so must be flexible with hours.
Managing IT asset lifecycle: acquisition, receiving, deployment & disposal of IT Assets within the Data Center.
Overseeing environments of a data center where they supervise systems and also identify, log, and report issues to their seniors. Resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents in a data center.
ITIL Process
ITIL Process Knowledge is a plus
- Coordinate timely hardware issue resolution with vendors and data center facilities,
- Spearhead the installation, configuration, racking, and decommissioning of data center equipment units, streamlining deployment processes.
- 24/7 Support & Troubleshooting: conduct routine inspections, and resolved operational, hardware, and infrastructure incidents in compliance with ITIL processes.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Access Request- Create access request for vendor visiting the DataCenter facilities.
Access Request- Escort the vendor to the cage and co-ordinate with them in resolving the hardware issues.
Adhoc Activities -Work with Backup team in validating the backup servers have redundancy in each quarter.
Adhoc Activities- Providing remote hands support to vendor in order to fix an issue by coordinating with respective infra teams.
Adhoc Activities -Working on the assigned tasks/change request during business hours/ non- business hours and in weekends.
Adhoc Activities -Closure of tasks/change requested within the SLA metrics.
Adhoc Activities -Co-ordinating with vendor in installing a new internet circuit from service provider until to the cage.
Adhoc Activities -Co-ordinate with DataCenter facilities in installing/removing the power circuits.
Adhoc Activities -Co-ordinate with DataCenter facilities on the UPS/cooling units in the cages.
Adhoc Activities -Co-ordinate with DataCenter facilities on creating inter-link patch panels between the cages.

Loading weekly tapes for backup servers
Backup Tape Swap
Loading restore tapes for backup servers
Backup Tape Swap
Loading and Swapping the monthly backup tapes for AS400 as per request..
Disaster Recovery
Perform DR activities
First Response
Providing 24/7 support and available in on-call anytime.
Handling Shipments
Handling inbound/outbound shipments.

Patch cable tracing through the DataCenter on the request to find the end to end connections
Install/Rack/DeRack/Disposal
Rack and stack all the new equipment(s) in the DataCenter which includes standalone servers, chassis, network devices,
storage devices etc .

Plan for rack space and power before racking a new equipment(s) to avoid overload on the power/rack space.

Perform initial configuration on the newly racked equipment(s).

Run the patch cables to the newly racked equipment s

Label the cables and update the rack elevation sheet whenever there is a change.

Remove the racked decommissioned equipment s and send it for re-cycling which includes standalone servers, chassis,network devices, storage devices, etc.
Inventory Management -Maintain the inventory of hardware s and spare parts and scratch tapes availability and request backup team to order them in advance to avoid the shortage of tapes.
Parts Replacement -Troubleshoot and replacing the failure parts with a Change request
Routine check on all the physical devices in the DataCenter on daily basics.
Routine Check
Preparing power audit on all the PDU s in DataCenter in monthly basics.
Troubleshooting the tape libraries when there is a stuck tape and robotic arm jam failures.
Troubleshooting -Provide console access whenever it is required.
Power Systems -Conduct inspections on power to ensure they are operational and efficient
Floor Management -Organize the floor space that harbor data center equipment to allow for easy accessibility
Cooling System
Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, routers, and other devices
Hardware Knowledge Knowledge on UCS and HPE Chassis and Cisco Switches and Routers are a Plus
