Volunteer Board Member (In Recovery) – Community-Focused Nonprofit | Advisory Role

Job Description:

We are forming a new Minnesota-based nonprofit with a mission rooted in compassion, dignity, and lived experience. Our focus is on addressing systemic barriers that impact individuals navigating recovery and long-term stability.

We’re seeking 2–3 supportive, purpose-aligned board members with personal recovery experience who are passionate about uplifting others and shaping a mission-driven organization from the ground up.

Why We Exist:

Our work started by helping people meet small, everyday needs. Over time, we saw deeper issues — repeated instability tied to challenges like substance use and a lack of meaningful support. This nonprofit was created to fill that gap with a peer-centered, community-led solution.

About the Role (Volunteer Position):

As a founding board member, you’ll serve in an advisory capacity to help guide the mission, values, and early structure of the organization. This is a light governance role focused on supporting a clear and founder-led vision. You’ll help shape an organization designed to respond to the real needs of the community, while keeping lived experience at the center.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Participating in occasional virtual board meetings (a few hours biweekly)
  • Offering feedback and insight from your personal recovery experience
  • Reviewing foundational documents and contributing to community-aligned messaging
  • Helping represent the organization’s purpose, especially during early formation
  • Supporting the development of services and systems aligned with the mission

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Individuals with lived experience in recovery (any pathway welcome)
  • Supportive, team-oriented people who align with a purpose-driven mission
  • Minnesota residents or individuals with strong community ties
  • Those comfortable serving in an advisory role with minimal administrative demands

What This Is:

  • A volunteer position with meaningful impact
  • An opportunity to help shape a new nonprofit focused on lived experience and healing
  • A light-touch commitment designed for people who want to give back in a focused, aligned way

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $1.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 per week

Work Location: Remote
