What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Principal position at New Northbridge Elementary School?
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Supports the Principal as the educational leader of the school, administering all facets of its instructional program, including the co-curricular activities. Supervises all certified and non-certified staff assigned to the school and establishes expectations for student learning performance, conduct, and attendance.
2. Works with the Principal to ensure that all efforts have been made or will be made to meet the needs of diverse learners in the general education program. As part of his/her responsibilities, the Assistant Principal shall promote instructional practices responsive to student needs and shall ensure that adequate instructional support is available for students and teachers. Instructional support shall include remedial instruction for students, consultative services for teachers, reading instruction and intervention at the elementary level, appropriate services for linguistic minority students, and other services consistent with effective educational practices and the requirements of M.G.L. c. 71B, § 2.
Essential Functions:
•Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school
•Serves as Acting Principal in the absence of the Principal
•Shares responsibilities with the Principal to lead school based Professional Learning Communities utilizing a collaborative leadership style
•Fosters positive student, parent, staff and community relationships
•Administer student discipline (major infractions)
•Coordinate staff duty rosters, arrival and dismissal coverage and lunch supervision
•Participates in Restraint Training; become certified in its implementation and maintain the ability to implement restraint techniques; be familiar with regulations related to restraint use.
•Manages the documentation of student behavior through the student management system (IC and/or SWIS).
•Oversees daily office detentions (alternating with Dean)
•Assists principal and dean with the annual review and update of the school handbook appendix.
•Lead building-wide PBIS Programming
•Facilitate weekly behavior/management meetings
•Ensure the safety and security of the building, including ensuring staff have appropriate training (ALICE, fire drill, restraint, etc.)
•Implements federal and state laws, administrative regulations and School Committee policies, as they apply to the school
•504 Coordinator for associated grade levels.
