What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interim Assistant Principal position at New Northbridge Elementary School?
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Supports the Principal as the educational leader of the school, administering all facets of its instructional program, including the co-curricular activities. Supervises all certified and non-certified staff assigned to the school and establishes expectations for student learning performance, conduct, and attendance.
2.Works with the Principal to ensure that all efforts have been made or will be made to meet the needs of diverse learners in the general education program. As part of his/her responsibilities, the Assistant Principal shall promote instructional practices responsive to student needs and shall ensure that adequate instructional support is available for students and teachers. Instructional support shall include remedial instruction for students, consultative services for teachers, reading instruction and intervention at the elementary level, appropriate services for linguistic minority students, and other services consistent with effective educational practices and the requirements of M.G.L. c. 71B, § 2.
Essential Functions:
1. Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school
2. Serves as Acting Principal in the absence of the Principal
3.Assists the Principal in supervising the delivery of instruction to all students ensuring that teachers focus on the appropriate standards and frameworks
4.Demonstrates currency in education theories and practices including student assessment and data analysis
5.Assists the Principal with the delivery and supervision of special education, English Learner, and Title I services in the building
6.Shares responsibilities with the Principal to lead school based Professional Learning Communities utilizing a collaborative leadership style
7.Encourages and facilitates faculty and staff professional growth and development
8.Fosters positive student, parent, staff and community relationships
9.Implements federal and state laws, administrative regulations and School Committee policies, as they apply to the school
10.Works with the Principal to effectively supervise and evaluate certified personnel assigned to the school according to the DESE Educator Evaluation System
11.Works with the Principal to effectively supervise and evaluate non-certified personnel assigned to the school according to collective bargaining agreements
12.Encourages positive public relations within and outside the school
13.Collaborates with the Principal by interviewing and helping to select highly qualified staff members
14.Exercises leadership necessary to make the school facility a safe, attractive, and productive place in which to learn and work
15.Promotes a responsive, orderly school climate that fosters high expectations and active engagement for all learners
16.Implements a fair and consistent system for student discipline
17.Maintains the student discipline files
18.May be responsible for procuring substitute teachers to cover classes of staff who are absent
19.Attends School Committee meetings, as required
20.Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
