New Oakland Family Centers provides comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse services for consumers across Michigan, in both outpatient and partial hospitalization settings.

Location: Pontiac

Schedule: Full time; Shift-based schedule as determined by Crisis Services Director. Three, 12.5-hour shifts each week, as determined by Crisis Director. Available shifts include 7AM - 7:30PM *Please note that initial new hire training will be conducted during daytime hours at the assigned training location, consisting of five 8.5-hour shifts from Monday to Friday. Completion of this training is required before beginning non-traditional shifts.

Reports To: Director of Crisis Services / Supervisor of Crisis Services/ YFCC Activities Facilitator Manager

Compensation: Hourly Employee; $19-$24/hour. Commensurate with experience.

Position Summary: The Activities Facilitator is a full-time position comprised of multiple clinical and administrative duties with New Oakland’s Youth and Family Care Connection (YFCC). Employees in this position will assist in the planning, implementation, and performance of therapeutically oriented activities and/or training programs for consumers within the Crisis Care Unit. This position will be performed under the guidance of a licensed clinician and Crisis Services Supervisor/Director. This position requires work in a children’s short-term crisis care unit that operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will work closely with clinical and administrative staff and consumers of all populations, specifically with children, to ensure efficient, safe and effective care.

Essential Duties / Functions:

  • Provides a safe and nurturing environment with an emphasis on respect, diversity, acceptance, and compassion.
  • Assists consumers with activities of daily living and encourages independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis.
  • Monitors safety issues regarding these consumers and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues as required.
  • Plans and leads activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and hobbies.
  • Works with consumers to develop skills needed for daily functioning and/or academics.
  • Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
  • Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
  • Provides training and instruction in language or perceptual motor development.
  • Gives instructions and participates in activities with consumers.
  • Plans a variety of games, movies, and other entertainment activities.
  • Monitors and maintains activity supplies and other equipment.
  • Completes documentation as required by the clinic’s policies/procedures.
  • Attends designated meetings as needed.
  • Communicates daily with Crisis Services staff regarding clinical and administrative issues/activities.
  • Light daily straightening of milieu; replenishing of supplies.
  • Complies with all agency policy and procedure, including attendance and punctuality policies, as well as the fulfillment of all initial and ongoing training requirements.
  • Actively participates as a positive member of the clinic environment.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

Working Conditions: Staff needs to be prepared to work in an acute, locked-down crisis unit. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may subject staff to behavioral and medical events that could be physically hazardous. They must be actively involved with clients and on occasion may need to use approved CPI techniques. They must be able to maintain attention and possess high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require prolonged periods of standing, moving and bending. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. One to two years of relevant experience required. One to two years of crisis work is highly preferred.
