The Opportunity

The New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is expanding its healthcare training team by adding a full-time EKG Instructor. We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide high-quality EKG training to both high school and adult learners, preparing them for the NHA Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam. As an EKG Instructor at NOCC, you will:

  • Deliver engaging, hands-on technical training in electrocardiography.
  • Develop tailored education plans to meet diverse student needs.

  • Coordinate industry certification exams and prepare students for employment.

Job Responsibilities

Certification Preparation & Student Readiness:

  • Ensure trainees can earn the NHA Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification and are employment-ready.
  • Guide students through hands-on practice, theory instruction, and competency-based learning to build proficiency in electrocardiography.

Instructional Planning:

  • Develop in-person and online education plans tailored to students' needs, aligned with NHA CET exam objectives.
  • Design lesson plans covering EKG lead placement, cardiac anatomy, arrhythmia interpretation, and patient safety.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment that encourages effective learning.
  • Integrate soft-skill instruction into technical training to enhance students' employability.
  • Utilize real-world scenarios, case studies, and practical demonstrations to reinforce learning.

Technical Training:

  • Provide hands-on training in EKG machine operation, Holter monitors, and stress test procedures.
  • Model, demonstrate, and reinforce correct EKG lead placement, troubleshooting, and interpretation.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Maintain open communication with students, staff, and administration regarding student performance.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and strategic partnerships to enhance student success.
  • Support students with feedback, mentoring, and guidance throughout their learning journey.

Evaluation & Feedback:

  • Regularly assess student progress through quizzes, practical exams, and mock certification tests.
  • Provide individualized feedback to enhance student competency and confidence.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to safety protocols, HIPAA compliance, and infection control standards.
  • Notify the administration of guest speakers, visitors, and training demonstrations for approval.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in ongoing training, staff meetings, and professional learning to stay updated on EKG advancements.
  • Collaborate with an instructional coach and support team to refine teaching methods.

Testing & Credentialing:

  • Coordinate NHA CET exam registration and serve as a proctor for certification testing.
  • Ensure a secure and structured testing environment following industry guidelines.

Program Impact & Optimization:

  • Generate weekly reports to assess student progress and instructional effectiveness.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and curriculum to improve certification pass rates and student success.

Equipment & Materials Management:

  • Recommend, purchase, and maintain instructional materials, EKG machines, and training supplies.
  • Supervise and support students in internships, clinical training, and work-based learning experiences.

Required Skills and Preferred Experience

  • Certified EKG Technician (CET) or higher-level credential (e.g., RN)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on EKG experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology, and arrhythmia interpretation.
  • Proficiency with EKG equipment and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and mentorship.
  • Strong teaching and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and understandably.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to develop and deliver structured instructional activities.
  • Self-sufficiency with technology, especially Google apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)
  • Ability to train one-on-one and in a group setting collaboratively and professionally using multiple modalities
  • Have a growth mindset and flexible approach to working with dynamic teams
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology, regulations, and safety standards.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. NOCC also offers a competitive benefits package that includes 80% employer-paid health insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance, 401K, 10 days of paid time off plus 30 days of NOCC org-wide breaks, and professional development resources and opportunities.

Salary Range $50,000 - $65,000

Application and Hiring Timeline

Following a successful application, the hiring process is scheduled to wrap by mid-April for a May 5 start date. The process will include an initial screening interview, performance task, in-person interview/visit, and follow-up conversations with NOCC staff, as necessary.

The physical essential functions of this job include (but are not limited to) the following: Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
