What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Reporting Supervisor position at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center?
The Financial Reporting Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Financial Reporting Manager with a wide variety of functions which include transactional processing, financial analysis, annual budget development and monitoring, cost allocation, and the implementation of financial and compliance controls. This individual is responsible for supervising the preparation of routine and ad-hoc reports by staff accountants in addition to supporting other team members on special, sometimes time-sensitive, projects.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist with the periodic, month-end, year-end close functions.
- Review staff proposed journal entries and approve for GAAP standards and statements.
- Review balance sheet account reconciliations and ensure accounts are reconciled monthly and in accordance with policy to confirm proper financial statement balances.
- Review income statement analytics and provide variance explanations.
- Prepare end of month financial statements; ensure all reports are completed and reviewed by closing deadlines.
Prepare high-level reports and perform complex analysis that may include confidential data.
- Prepare capital projects reports, tax reports, continuing disclosure reports. and debt schedules.
- Prepare complex journal entries, reconciliations, and allocations.
- Complete various city & state reports including, but not limited to; Annual Reports, Monthly Boards & Commissions Reports, FEMA Quarterly Reports, and Occupational Licenses.
Assist with budget/forecast preparation and review.
- Perform accounting and tax research to support conclusions.
Monitor grant process and perform grant reporting.
- Prepare reports for granting authorities including FEMA, State of Louisiana, and Federal government.
- Review grants and general ledger activity for new grant opportunities.
Review annual Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and make recommendations for process and reporting improvements for management review.
Interact with other departments to discuss, implement and review MCCNO policies and procedures to ensure that all parties are aware of MCCNO requirements and expectations to achieve operational efficiency.

- Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay and discipline of assigned personnel.
- Orient employees to MCCNO policies and procedures, clearly communicate job duties and responsibilities so individuals may proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions.
- Personally conduct or oversee training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed.
- Monitor the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis, conduct effective performance appraisals, and take corrective action whenever necessary.
- Create a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
- Administer MCCNO policies in a fair and equitable manner with regard to discipline, tardiness, absenteeism or insubordination and fully document all incidents and actions taken.
